Constipation occurs when bowl movement become difficult, painful and less frequent.

Though the constipation, itself is not serious problem, but it causes terribly serious diseases if not treated immediately. Constipation causes release of toxins in the blood stream, which may lead to many serious problems like appendicitis, arthritis, high-blood pressure, cataract, and cancer.

In constipation bowl movement become less frequent with less bowl volume and weight. Bowl movement also becomes difficult as well as painful due to hard stool. The frequency of bowl movement varies for the person to person, but if it goes around no bowl movement in three or four days, you may consider yourself constipated.

Causes of constipation:

Constipation is the problem related with your digestive system. It is not a disease but a sign which points towards the possibility of many other diseases. The most common causes of constipation are:

  1. Inadequate intake of water is one of the common cause which results in constipation in most of the people.
  2. Wrong eating habits like eating heavy, fried, processed junk food. Not taking salad and fruits in your diet increase the chances of constipation.
  3. Holding back the pressure when you feel urge to bowl movement. More time it remains in the stomach, more it becomes harder and results in constipation.
  4. Weak abdominal muscles can also the source of constipation.
  5. Many diseases like hyper-acidity, diabetes, colitis cause constipation.
  6. Consuming coffee or tea in an excessive amount also causes constipation.
  7. Fiber diets are useful in bowl movement but if your diet lacks fibers, it can lead to constipation.
  8. Low intake of fluids along with meal, inadequate chewing can also result in constipation.
  9. Lack of exercise and mobility also play an decisive role in making you constipated.
  10. Excessive use of stool softeners to ease bowl movement makes the bowl muscles weak and cause constipation.
