yeast-infectionCandida albicans is a kind of fungus that lives inside of every one of us. In normal amounts, this fungus will not cause problems, however once it begins to grow, our bodies will show different symptoms. This type of infection is typically not significant, however if it is left untreated, it can be very dangerous if it travels into the blood.

When all of our bacterial and hormonal levels are balanced, the Candida stays hidden, however once these bacterial levels become imbalanced, the Candida feeds off of it. Once it begins to feed, it also grows, causing a variety of symptoms including a rash, burning, itching, and pain. A yeast infection can develop in many places throughout the body including the mouth (oral thrush), the skin, the genital area, and the intestines.

Yeast Infection in Private Parts:

The most common place for a yeast infection to occur is the private parts of men and women. Women are more likely to develop infection compare to men.  Symptoms of these types of yeast infection including a reddish colored rash, a thick white cottage-cheese like discharge, excessive itching, burning during urination, and pain during sexual intercourse. For a woman, these symptoms may occur more frequently around the time of menstruation.

You can find various treatments available for this type of yeast infection. If you want to try natural remedies, you can wash the area with diluted raw apple cider vinegar or dip a tampon in a mixture of water and apple cider vinegar and then insert into your private part. You can also add a few drops of the vinegar to bath water to soak in for 20 minutes.

Honey works wonders for treating a yeast infection naturally. Simply pour the honey onto the affected area and allow it to stay there for 20 minutes, then you can wash it off with warm water or take a bath if you wish.

Oral Yeast Infection:

An oral yeast infection is also called oral thrush and symptoms include a thick white coating on the top of the tongue, white lesions or rash on the inside of the mouth and the tongue that may be painful and even bleed if rubbed. Loss of taste may also be experienced along with pain when eating. Those who smoke or wear dentures are more susceptible to to develop oral thrush, along with babies. If oral thrush is left untreated, the yeast can spread to the throat and esophagus causing more problems.
Treatment for oral thrush can vary. An antiseptic mouthwash may be used or a warm salt water rinse; prescription medication may also be needed to get rid of the oral thrush. Eating unsweetened plain yogurt can also help battle the bad bacteria while keeping yeast growth at bay.

Yeast Infection in Intestine:

A yeast infection can also occur in the intestines. Symptoms of an intestinal yeast infection may include diarrhea, bloating, increased fatigue, depression, stomach pain noticed especially after eating anything sugary, muscle aches, and joint pain. These types of infection can be difficult to diagnose and a doctor will need to run some tests to give a proper diagnosis due to the symptoms mimicking those of other gastrointestinal illnesses. If the problem is not treated properly it can cause more serious problems such as Leaky Gut syndrome, due to the yeast causing the lining of the intestines to thin out and allowing toxins to enter the body.

When dealing with an intestinal yeast infection, the best thing that you can do is change your diet habits. Limit the number of sugary foods and carbohydrates you eat on a daily basis. Yeast feeds off of sugar, so you are just feeding the yeast when you eat these types of foods. Add more vitamins and minerals to your diet, along with adding unsweetened yogurt. You should stay away from yeast breeding foods such as mushrooms, bread, cheese, peanuts, and beer. It may take awhile to gain improvement through eating a healthier diet, but it will be worth it in the end.

Medication For Yeast Infection:

Many over the counter anti-fungal medications are available to you at most stores. The majority of these medications do work, however make sure that you read the label. Sometimes these medications only lessen the symptoms and don't work to get rid of the yeast infection. There must be something going on that is causing the imbalance in the body, giving the yeast something to feed and grow on. If you don't treat the underlying cause of the infection, it will most likely continue to come back again.

If you are not sure if you have a yeast infection or not, you should see your doctor so that he can give you a proper diagnosis and help you decide on the best form of treatment. Diflucan is typically given to treat a yeast infection, but if it doesn't work other treatments will need to be tried. If the infection keeps developing, he can also work with you to find the underlying cause of the yeast infection.
If a yeast infection is not treated properly, it will continue to grow. If a vaginal yeast infection is left untreated, it can spread further inside of the body causing fertility problems in the future.

If any type of yeast infection is not treated, the infection can possibly spread to the blood. This can be very dangerous because once the infection is in the blood it can spread to other organs in the body, including the brain or the heart and can become fatal.

Numerous other diseases are considered to be caused by a yeast problem such as urinary tract infections, acne, GERD, Crohn's disease, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Autism, and Depression, just to name a few. They are not always caused by yeast, but may be considered to have some sort of relation to the yeast in the body.

A yeast infection can be treated fairly easily as long as it is treated early on. If left untreated, the symptoms may become worse and cause more severe problems in the future. If you think you have a yeast infection, you should see your doctor as soon as possible. If you know you have a yeast infection, treatment should be started right away and if it doesn't go away after a few days of treatment, a doctor should be contacted.
