It is always better to consult a doctor but if you want to avoid doctors there are many home remedies for sun burn. Apply olive oil or Aloe-Vera gel on your skin.

As suggested by Celestine, sandal wood powder is a good therapy. You can use rose water instead of plain water to get better results.

skin burns because the UV denatures vitamins and omegas and things in the outer layers of the skin, which then turns into a total barbeque. so after cooling the sunburn you need to restore the vitamin and omega balance.A great way to do this is to create a paste. Try oatmeal, aloe vera gel ,a DROP of tea tree oil (to protect against infection that can happen during peeling- it's anti-bacterial, anti-viral and anti-fungul)crushed vitamin E tablets (they're fab at cell renewal crucial to healing). I guess you can add other anti-inflammatory things too, but this works for me.

To make it feel better rub aloe on it, stops the stinging. The burn will fade after a few days but then the dead skin might start to peel. whatever you do, don't try to speed up the process up with creams and ointments except for aloe. You can also use the home remedies to remove dead skin.
