Tonsillitis is soaring throat problem that most of us encounter somewhere in our life. It is very painful experience which causes difficulty in swallowing, inability to eat solid food and headache. Sometimes person suffering from it might get fever. Tonsillitis is caused by bacteria or virus which infects tonsils.  Talking about tonsils, they lie in the back of our throat, one in left side and other one in right side. The main job of tonsils is to protect the body from the germs which come through nose or mouth. Sometimes while protecting the body from bacteria or virus, tonsils themselves get affected and result in tonsillitis.

Symptoms of Tonsillitis:

General symptoms of tonsillitis include difficulty in swallowing anything especially solid material. The other symptoms are:

  • The person feels weakness and headache along with fever and body pain.
  • The person loses his appetite.
  • The tonsils become swollen and reddish.
  • Person may also feel pain in the ear.
  • Yellow or white pus may be observed on the tonsils of infected person.
  • Bad breathe

Causes of Tonsillitis:

The main cause of tonsillitis is infection in tonsils due to bacteria or virus. But there are some other reasons which can contribute in development of tonsillitis. These reason include:

  • Glandular fever which is also a type of viral infection.
  • Children become prone to tonsillitis when they develop cold.
  • Chronic constipation can also cause tonsillitis.

Simple Tips to Cure Tonsillitis:

Tonsillitis is caused both by bacteria as well as virus. In case of bacteria, the person can be given antibiotics but in case of virus infection, antibiotics don’t work. The body fights against the virus on its own. The doctor may give some medicine to relieve the symptoms of fever and pain.

In severe case of tonsillitis, the doctor may advise you to remove tonsils from surgery. Other than taking medical help you can also try some natural and herbal treatments. Here are some tips that you can try

  1. Take a glass of light warm water and squeeze a half-cut fresh lime in it. Add four teaspoon of honey and quarter teaspoon of common salt. Drink this solution twice in a day.
  2. Add a pinch of turmeric powder in a glass of boiled milk and drink it in the night before going to bed.
  3. Vegetable juice, especially prepared from carrot, beet-root, cucumber is very beneficial in treatment of tonsillitis.
  4. Take a glass of warm water and dissolve one tablespoon of salt into it. Use this solution for gargling twice in day. It is very helpful remedy in preventing the pus formation in tonsils. Also it clears the mouth and throat and prevents the further infection.
  5. Take two tablespoon of fenugreek seeds and boil it a half liter of water for around half an hour. Strain and cool the water and use this concoction for gargling.
  6. Don’t take icy cold stuff as it may worsen the problem. Cool and slight warm drinks are always easy to swallow.
  7. Get ample rest as the body fights infection in a better way when you are asleep.
  8. Smoking can irritate the throat so avoid smoking.

These are few tips that you can try at your home to fight tonsillitis.
