From the ancient, Long hair is always associated with beauty, and everybody in this world longs for strong, healthy and shiny hair. Such kind of hair requires regular care and Diet. Our hair needs protein, Vitamins and nutrients that can only be supplied with proper diet. If you think, there should be a magical potion that can make your hair lustrous, thenĀ  there is, nothing like magic, but some basic vitamins which can do wonders.

Hair growth and role of Vitamins:

Our Hair is formed from a protein called keratin. It is produced in the hair follicles. As new cell are formed by follicles, old cells are pushed up and in this manner hair grows. Follicles require nutrients and vitamins which is supplied through blood vessels. As we grow older, the blood vessels which supply nutrients decreases, and to overcome this we either need increased blood flow or increased nutrients, vitamins and proteins to the follicles.

Essential Vitamins for hair growth:

Vitamin B is most essential vitamin for healthy hair. It is to be noted that vitamin B is not a single vitamin but a lot of vitamins which are clubbed under this name.

  • Vitamin B5: Vitamin B5 increases blood circulation in the body that results in increased blood supply to follicles. It also improves hair color. Sources of vitamin B5 are flesh and chicken egg.
  • Vitamin B6: Vitamin B6 is essential for promoting hair growth and reduce hair loss. It regulates amino acid which are the key factor of hair growth. Foods like pork and poultry products are a rich source of Vitamin B6. Nuts, whole grains and bananas areĀ  other sources.

  • Vitamin B12: It also reduce hair loss. Sources of vitamin B12 are milk, egg, fish, meat and dairy products.
  • Vitamin B3: It increases blood circulation in the scalp and promote hair to get proper nutrients. Sources of vitamin B3 are fish, chicken and wheat germ.
  • Vitamin C: It helps in maintaining the hair health. Fruits are the main source of vitamin C. Melons, bananas and grapefruits, orange are rich sources of vitamin C. Green vegetables and peas are other sources of vitamin C.
  • Vitamin A: Antioxidant power of vitamin A helps in production of healthy sebum. Cheese and milk are a high source of Vitamin A. Beef liver is abundant source of vitamin A. Carrots, broccoli, spinach, sweet potatoes and pumpkin are vegetable sources of vitamin A.
  • Vitamin E: It also helps in increasing scalp circulation. Sources of vitamin E are whole grains and nuts.
  • Biotin: It is highly essential for healthy hair and skin. It is assumed that biotin prevents hair loss in men.
