If you are working on computer for a long time every day, the chances of getting neck pain are remarkably high. The 2/3rd of world population somewhere in life suffer from neck pain. But the real problem starts when pain in the area goes serious than occasional discomfort.

Cause of Neck Pain:

Neck pain arises due to increased pressure on neck muscles. When we sit in front of computer with our head, bent towards the computer screen, our posture cause lots of pressure on the lower part of the neck and upper part of back bone. When this strain continues for a longer time, pain starts in neck muscles. Sometimes it extends to shoulders, elbows and wrists.

Other symptoms with neck pain:

There are otherĀ  symptoms with neck pain if you sit in front of computer for a long time. These include blurring vision, weakness in arm muscles. Using a mouse and keyboard all along the day causes wear and tear of wrist and finger joints.

Relation of Ergonomic posture and neck pain:

Our body is designed in such a way that our ear, shoulders and hips should reside in a plane. Going outside from this plane causes non desirable distribution of gravitational force along the body. This gravitational force puts pressure on some part of body like neck which are not designed for such pressure. So bad posture is a key element of neck pain.

Tips to avoid neck pain:

  1. Always sit in correct posture, to reduce pressure on neck muscles. In this way, you can work longer time in front of a computer.
  2. Take periodic breaks while working on computer. Give your neck some movement time to time and don't hold it in one position for a long time.
  3. Opt for a convenient-ergonomic chair, if you can't avoid sitting in front of computer for a long period.
  4. Exercises to make neck muscles strong are a excellent way to avoid neck pain.
  5. You can put hot or cold compresses on neck whichever feels better.
  6. Neck massage can be done to reduce neck strain. It can give you immediate relief.
  7. If the neck pain has gone critical, seek a doctor.

Holistic pain relief
Posture can make all the difference in the world, especially in your day to day movement. Work can be stressful, and if you are sitting down all day, it can wreak havoc on your body! I can't even begin to state the benefits of taking a break and stretching, but also being aware of your body and the pressure you put on it when you are sitting down all day.
